Our Initiatives

Our Initiatives

The Sterling Foundation is dedicated to Sterling, VA and all of our neighbors who make Sterling such a wonderful place to call home. All of our initiatives focus on two main areas – fostering Sterling’s Identity as a diverse, welcoming, connected community, and doing everything we can to Beautify our hometown. We feel that our dedication to these two pillars helps to ensure that Sterling shines brightly as the welcoming front door of Loudoun County.

We hope you’ll take some time to explore our various initiatives and learn more about what the Sterling Foundation has been doing for Sterling for the past 30 years, and will continue to do each and every day!

SterlingFest

Every October, SterlingFest brings all of our neighbors together to celebrate the best of Sterling! SterlingFest is a great opportunity for businesses, civic organizations, artists, crafters, and everyone that makes Sterling great to come together, get to know each other, and have a fun, fantastic, friendly day! We hope you’ll join us this coming October.

Sterling Blvd

The Sterling Foundation began 30 years with a singular mission: to maintain & beautify the expansive median along our hometown main street, Sterling Boulevard. This effort has served as inspiration, expanding our goals and our impact throughout the community. We hope you’ll learn more & join us in our efforts!

Gardens

The Sterling Foundation works tirelessly to preserve our environment and beautify our hometown. Our recent efforts include developing and maintaining two public gardens in Sterling; the Helen Casey Memorial Butterfly Garden and the Linek Garden. We hope you’ll learn more about these two bastions of nature’s beauty and hopefully volunteer to help us maintain them!

Stream Clean Up

Sterling is home to multiple waterways that flow directly into the Potomac River & out into the Chesapeake Bay. We’re proud to partner with Alliance for the Cheseapeake Bay’s Project Clean Stream, coordinating regular clean ups where volunteers explore our local streams, remove litter, and learn about how we all contribute to the health of our environment.

Sterling History & Heritage

Sterling’s bright future relies on understanding our fascinating past. The foundation’s Sterling History & Heritage Preservation Committee is dedicated to documenting our area’s rich history, educating our neighbors throughout Sterling & greater Loudoun County, and utilizing our deep understanding of the past to contribute to civic, business, & governmental plans for our community’s future.

Scholarships

We’re proud to support Sterling’s future by offering scholarships to local area high school students who have displayed dedication to academic excellence and a passion for volunteering. This year we’ll be awarding a total of $5,000 to three students who best exemplify the values of our hometown and our shared commitment to community. Students from Park View, Dominion, and Potomac Falls high schools are welcome to apply.
