About the event

Our wineries, orchards, and farms need your help! The invasive Spotted Lanternfly was drawn to Loudoun by the Tree of Heaven but quickly moves on to grapevines and fruit trees, putting our local farms and wineries at risk. Join 1,000 of your fellow Loudouners for Scrape for the Grape on Saturday, March 29, 2025, and/or Saturday, April 12, 2025.

The Sterling Foundation is a proud member of the Loudoun Invasive Removal Alliance (LIRA), We are partnering with Visit Loudoun, Loudoun Wineries and Winegrowers Association and the Virginia Cooperative Extension.

Volunteers will receive training and tools to safely remove Spotted Lanternfly egg masses from trees before they hatch, as well as to tag Tree of Heaven for future removal. As a token of appreciation, volunteers will receive souvenir scrapers, t-shirts, and bandanas.

Additionally, our local wineries and breweries are showing their gratitude with a special weekend of promotions for all volunteers on March 29-30 and April 12-13. And for the kids, a sweet treat—a special event cookie from Mom’s Apple Pie!

Join us in protecting Loudoun’s farms and wineries while enjoying some well-deserved rewards!
