The Sterling Foundation is proud to be led by a dedicated and diverse team of board members who share a deep commitment to our community. Each member brings unique experiences and a passion for enhancing the quality of life in Sterling Park.
From long-time residents with decades of volunteer service to newer members who have quickly become integral to our efforts, our board is united by a common goal: to preserve the natural beauty, foster community spirit, and celebrate the rich history of Sterling Park.
Together, they contribute their skills and time to ensure that Sterling remains a vibrant and welcoming place for all.
Nancy Gallagher
(Secretary, Sterling Foundation; Chair, SterlingFest)
Nancy has lived in Sterling Park for 38 years, residing in four different areas: W. Beech Road, E. Iberia Road, Mycroft Court, and E. Amhurst Street. Nancy has four children, ages 38 to 29, all of whom are Park View High School graduates. Three live in Northern Virginia and one resides in New York City. Nancy is also a proud grandmother of four grandchildren, age 3, 11, 13 and 14. Fortunately, all her grandchildren live nearby. With 19 years of experience in the financial advisory field, Nancy opened her own financial advisory practice two years ago, focusing on helping others achieve their best financial selves through planning and investing. Nancy became involved in the Sterling Foundation when she attended her friend’s, Cheryl Villalobos, first meeting as president, in a show of support. When the position of secretary became vacant in 2018, Cheryl convinced her to take on the position. In 2022, Nancy took on additional responsibilities as chair of SterlingFest. In fact it was Nancy who first introduced the concept of the ever popular beer and wine garden at SterlingFest in 2018. Growing up on a small farm in Pennsylvania, Nancy developed loves gardening in her backyard. She also serves on the board of the New Ag School, a non-profit in Leesburg dedicated to mentoring new farmers. When Nancy is not working or volunteering, Nancy enjoys gardening, home improvement, hiking and visiting her children.
Kathy Hetrick
Kathy has lived in Sterling Park since 2013 when she purchased her first home. Kathy works as a social worker for Prince Williams County and finds respite in the outdoors. In her spare time, Kathy enjoys hiking, camping and live music. Kathy has a deepappreciation for Sterling’s natural amenities including Claude Moore Park, Briar Patch Park and the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. Kathy joined the board of the Sterling Foundation in 2024 and is enjoying getting to know her neighbors. Kathy shares her home with her daughter, a 2013 graduate of Potomac Falls High School. She also has a son who graduated from Park View High School in 2015.
Brad Jefferson
Brad has been a proud resident of Sterling Park since 1993. Over the past three decades, Brad and his family have become deeply rooted in the community, with his children attending local schools from elementary through high school. His active involvement in their upbringing within Sterling Park has further strengthened his ties to the area. Brad and his family cherish the family-friendly atmosphere of Sterling and enjoy exploring the natural beauty of Claude Moore Park, as well as participating in the annual SterlingFest, which celebrates the vibrancy and togetherness of their community. As a dedicated board member of the Sterling Foundation, Brad has taken on a significant role in maintaining and updating the organization's website. His efforts ensure that the community stays informed about the Foundation’s initiatives focused on beautification, environmental stewardship, and fostering community engagement in Sterling Park. Brad’s passion for volunteering stems from his desire to contribute to the growth and improvement of the community, making Sterling Park an even better place to live for everyone.
Genny Boarman Johnson
(Volunteer Coordinator)
Genny has lived in Sterling since 2008. Genny has been active in many different volunteer roles serving as a Girl Scout leader for 10 years, a volunteer coordinator and support, and as an outreach coordinator for her church. Among her favorite things to do in Sterling include participating in community events, volunteering, running, walking andbiking. Genny considers the diversity and unity among the residents to be among the strengths of the Sterling community. Genny first became involved with the Foundation when she reached out to the board to coordinate a beautification effort in her neighborhood and donated cupcakes as prizes for Foundation events. Genny enjoys participating in Sterling Foundation activities, especially SterlingFest and the Clean Stream event. When Genny isn’t running around to all the kids’ activities, baking cupcakes, and working her 9-5 job, she enjoys playing games, hiking, competing in triathlons, and spending time with her family.
Robert Latham
(Treasurer)
Robert, a lifelong Virginia resident and Sterling Park local since 2005, brings a wealth of diverse interests to the Sterling Foundation Board as Treasurer. His volunteer service as treasurer for various political and non-profit organizations since 2017 is a testament to his dedication to community causes. In his leisure time, Robert' eclectic tastes keep him busy with his spouse, dog, Hot Wheels collection, photography and monster San Marzano tomato plant. His language skills are impressive, with fluency in English and Spanish, and proficiency in German, French, and Mandarin. Despite his busy schedule, he still finds time to make a mean Bolognese sauce and never turns down a round of Cards Against Humanity, or a nice Bordeaux.
Lisa McKenzie
Lisa is a long-time resident of Sterling Park, having lived in the community for 43 years. She attended Sterling Middle School and Park View High School. Her three adult children also graduated from Park View. Lisa loves volunteering for her community and working with its leaders. Lisa has been on the Sterling Advisory Board for over 20 years and has worked on the Sterlingfest board for over 25 years. Lisa was also a Girl Scout leader and volunteered as a trainer. In her spare time, Lisa likes to handcraft cards for her loved ones, visit with her five grandchildren and spend time with her two American Staffordshire Terriers and one demanding cat.
Jim Morris
Jim first became involved with the Sterling Foundation when he volunteered to help with SterlingFest is 2024. Jim has lived in Sterling for over twenty years. Professionally, Jim is a Senior Partner Account Manager with Amazon Web Services. In his spare time, Jim serves as President of the Reston-Herndon Toastmasters and is a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Sierra Club. Jim also enjoys photography, astronomy and traveling. Jim has a degree in Business Management from Bentley College and a degree in International Business from George Washington University.
Nicole Ethier Slazinski
Nicole and her husband have lived in Sterling Park since June 2016. Nicole immediately fell in love with the area because of how friendly people in the community are, the diversity in the community and how safe it is. Nicole works part-time for Prince William County protecting the environment, a lifelong passion of hers. Nicole was recruited to the board after she had volunteered at SterlingFest for the last couple of years. Currently, she is responsible for recruiting and managing vendors or SterlingFest 2024. When Nicole is not volunteering with the Foundation, she is tending to her three-and-a-half-year-old triplets.
Jason Testerman
Jason is in his sixth year on the board of the Sterling Foundation, where he runs the Sterling Boulevard committee. His committee focuses on mowing the Boulevard, Sterling Park’s three gateway signs, the monument wall and the jersey wall on Route 7. In addition, he works with Sterling Schools to pick senior scholarship recipients each spring from the local high schools. Jason is starting his fourteenth year as the Athletic Director at Park View High School. In his free time, he is also involved with the Schar Cancer Institute Patient Family Advisory Council, and is an avid runner, completing 14 marathons during his running career. Jason’s passions revolve around making a difference in the Sterling community and being a solid role model for our students. Originally from Cincinnati, Jason is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
Norida Torriente
(Vice Chair)
Norida has called Sterling Park home for the past two and a half years, since she moved to the area from Alexandria, Va., to be close to her employer’s service area in Loudoun County. Since relocating to Sterling Park, Norida has been active with the Foundation volunteering at the quarterly clean-up of Sterling Boulevard and Sterling Fest. For the past two years, she has organized the annual Clean Stream event. Norida first grew to love volunteerism as a brother of the University of Maryland Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a coed service fraternity. In her spare time, Norida enjoys spending time with her friends and her adult son, Keller, communing with nature, exploring cultural events and feasting on culinary delights. Norida resides in Sterling Park with her daughter, Ilsa, and their cat, Izzy.
Cheryl Villalobos
(Chair)
Cheryl has lived with her family in Sterling Park since 1993. She leads English classes at her church and manages the Sterling Park Neighborhood Exchange on Facebook. Serving on the Sterling Foundation's board of directors since 2015 and as its chairperson since 2018, Cheryl's favorite aspect of serving the Sterling community is interacting with the people—including board members, foundation members, community partners and the residents of Sterling. Cheryl is passionate about dedicating more time to researching Sterling's history to safeguard it for future generations. In her spare time, Cheryl enjoys swimming with her friends at Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center.
